Addressing Recent Incidents

Hello everybody, the Council and I want to address the recent incidents that have occurred in GFL.

 

Statement Regarding Paypal And CS:S Zombie Escape
On April 18th I was informed that our former host, SoJa , had been taking money out of our PayPal for his own personal use. I made the mistake of fully trusting SoJa to appropriately handle the financial side of GFL. This included the PayPal account as well as the payment that would go out to pay for each of the boxes. While I have been toying with the idea of “monetizing” GFL for a personal profit in the past couple months, It would have come with a large overhaul of the donation systems as well as significant communication with the community that their donations no longer go just to server upkeep. What SoJa did was completely behind my back as well as a blatant act of theft. That being said, it was my negligence that allowed this to occur. I have never taken money out of the GFL account for personal use and I never will without significant communication to the community.

 

The initial discovery of SoJa’s theft was made by Juky and BotoX about a month before I was informed. They decided not to tell myself or the rest of Council, but instead initiated a plan to move the server files and population from our box to their own. I consider this theft as well, but I can see how they have justified it for themselves. The remaining Council and I have come to the decision that the best course of action is to let them have CS:S ZE. I want to focus on regaining the trust of those who have put time and effort into the management and upkeep of all of GFL’s servers. Without these volunteers GFL would be nothing.

 

I want to apologize to every admin, manager, division leader, and Council member who has helped me build this community which I have let down through my own carelessness. I especially want to apologize to all of you who have donated to GFL whose money was misappropriated. I have been working with the rest of Council to take steps to make sure this can never happen again and how I can improve myself to become a leader that is worthy of helping to run GFL.

 

The first couple of steps that the Council and I have taken to improve GFL has been to create a business class PayPal just for GFL. We are going to try and be as transparent as possible going forward in regards to exactly where your money is going. We will be publishing monthly documents taken directly from PayPal on the website for anyone to view. As this is new territory for me, there are still improvements to be made in terms of how we can display this information without revealing everyone's sensitive PayPal information. The current solution is a screenshot of anything the GFL PayPal account has spent money on in a given month. If anyone knows a better way to achieve PayPal transparency, then I am open to suggestions. Going forward, there will be many changes in the coming months regarding donations. As many plans are not finalized, I do not want to go into detail about any changes that will occur. I promise that any changes that are made in regards to your money will be clearly communicated beforehand and the community as a whole will have a say in any big changes.

 

Overall, I hope we can all move on and make GFL great again. After all of this is settled and we ensure our back-end is completely stable, we will move forward and continue making GFL a greater place to stay.
